Privacy Policy — AV Mail Viewer Offline

AV Mail Viewer Offline ("the app") opens email files stored on your own device. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your data.

The short version

  • The app does not collect, store on a server, sell, or share any personal data.
  • The app has no account, no sign-up, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.
  • Your email files are read on your device and never uploaded.

What the app accesses

  • Email files you choose. The app reads only the files and folders you open or drag into it. It does not scan your device, and it does not read your mailbox or any email account.
  • Attachments. Attachments are shown from the email file in memory. They are written to disk only when you choose to save one, or when you choose to open one in another app (a temporary copy is created and deleted when you close the app).

What the app stores on your device

  • Preferences (for example dark mode, hidden panels, and a list of recently opened file paths). You can clear the recent list from the File menu.
  • An error log (%LOCALAPPDATA%\AVMailViewer\error.log on Windows) written only if the app crashes. It stays on your device and is never sent anywhere.

Network use

The app is designed to work fully offline. By default, scripts, remote images, remote styles and web fonts in emails are blocked, which also prevents tracking pixels.

The app starts in Strict offline mode, in which it never loads anything from the internet. Network access can happen only if you turn that mode off in the View menu and then choose it:

  • "Load online content" for one message: your device then contacts the servers that host the images or styles in that email. Those servers can see your IP address and that the email was opened. You are asked to confirm first.
  • Opening a link: links in emails are never opened automatically. If you confirm, the link opens in your default web browser, which is outside this app and subject to that browser's and website's own policies.

Children

The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be included with the app and the effective date above will be updated.
